Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
